Yesterday, went to meeting of Templeton Council on Aging. The senior center was packed, I had to park in the snow. At the meeting, it was pointed out that senior center staff had helped a senior get housing, now that is really service to residents. That is why funding for the center is important and vital to the town.
Not all of the senior center budget is from taxation, some is paid for by formula grant and others are covered by MART reimbursement to town, so if one looks at budget for senior center, it can be deceiving
The senior center should get additional funding before any public safety agency in Templeton gets a dime.
ReplyDeleteSenior center is a warming place, a cooling place and a place were seniors can get help with things like fuel assistance paperwork, food assistance programs.
It actually presents services directly to clients such as meals on wheels, Medical transport, etc
Our elderly population is significant and services aare needed
Here's one 70 year old non-user of the Senior Center who votes for less or zero funding.
ReplyDeleteAs life goes, we never know what tomorrow will bring. I look at the Senior Center as a safety net for the residents of this community. Their staff helps people with so many issues. Help with insurance questions. Tax questions. They really are invaluable. I may not need them today but they will be there when I do. They deserve the support of us all. They deserve the funding they deserve. I will stand up for them any day.
