Town Hall, we do things right and we follow up on select board business???

Fire Chief employment contract up June 30, 2023.
page 2 and 3 - compensation:
FY 21 = $80,000.00
FY 22 = $83,250.00
FY 23 = $86,500.00
FY 21 budget book shows fire chief pay at $80,000.00
FY 22 budget book shows fire chief pay at $83,250.00
FY 23 budget book shows fire chief pay at $83,250.00
So, fire chief was not given raise in fy 23? What happened? What could it be? Time to read fire chief contract. Page 5 shows courses and seminars: "The chief shall annually attend at least twenty-four hours of professional development courses, seminars and meetings . . . "
college level courses: The chief in his personal time shall pursue appropriate professional certification and job-related college level courses in accordance with goals and objectives agreed to by him and the administrator described in section 9.
Section 9: performance review and goals:
1. annual goals and objectives, by July 31, 2020, the chiefs' professional goals and objectives shall be reduced to writing and submitted to administrator for review and approval. These goals shall include the requirement to annually complete the course described above.
2. Performance review, the chief acknowledges that is performance shall be evaluated by the accomplishment of the specific goals and objectives described above.
Page 6 states C -salary review - The chief acknowledges that the salary increases described above in section 3 (a) are conditioned on the annual completion of the courses described above. The chief will not receive such annual salary increase until such time as he has completed said courses, unless otherwise excused by the administrator upon the basis of extraordinary circumstances. The chief further acknowledges that the increase in compensation anticipated to be granted over his fy 2020 compensation shall not be granted until submission of the professional development plan.

So, conclusion could be since chief did not get raise in fy23, he did not complete required training and education. Perhaps question should be, should he continue to be town fire chief? Is it insubordination to fail to complete required and agreed to training and course work? Templeton continues no enforcement of agreements, rules, bylaws, state law and no follow upon board business.

That is one possibility... but we should not exclude the possibility of yet another fuckup by the crack financial team. My guess would be the unqualified Town Accountant.

How did the Fire Chief manage to get this deep in the shits? He could always point to the case with the Town Accounting... why isn't she treated as harshly? Maybe he should ask Selectboard to be sent to Florida...for "college level" fireman courses. All expenses paid. Like the unqualified but highly paid accountant.

  3. I'm honestly surprised that they didn't give him the raise anyway............we have NO Accountability, we follow no Policy, No Bylaws so would we abide by this contract...............lol

I personally think the Chief needs to go for his performance or lack their of..............

Ambulance coverage stinks unless your in Baldwinville. Our Police are put under additional stressors due to poor management of Ambulance to promote Fire expansion which is not vital to life saving nearly as much.

Buying equipment and longing for the old days of living in the firehouse seem to be the priorities of this Chief.

They work 12 hour shifts but mentioned the need for living/sleeping quarters.......huh? We dont even employ enough personnel to staff our buildings. It seems the Templeton Center Station is a unmanned Garage

Do the People who live in East Templeton, Templeton have ALS Ambulance Service or is it just Baldwinville?

FYI - Ambulance service stinks in Baldwinville too. Check out how many times they respond without 2 heroes. How many times Woods has to transport. How many times the Police are tied up, even in Baldwinville.

    2. My belief is that our Ambulance Service has been used to Justify adding "Fireman" hence why we hire Fireman/Paramedics when 80% of all the calls are for Ambulance?

I'm seriously curious. I looked at the training manual/union agreement and as I understand it 2 fireman should not enter the building until a 3rd and 4th arrive. My point is two fold. 1) Fireman in Templeton are not life savers, but more Insurance liabilities diminishers..?????? or whatever
2)The Ambulance is Lifesaving far more often than "fire"

Our Chief is constantly over equiping our Fire Department for the needs of OUR community so He can utilize the "mutual aid availability" and increase demand for his on call and regular staff.

We have a 10 yr old Ambulance that Dave pushed back in favor of a second tanker. It was even listed as Out of Service permanently for over 6 months during the "push" to replace it.............the month before Capital Planning started till the month after they determined dont believe me, look it up........weekly reports Fire, tell the story

Watch this piece as it is an antique and we dont always get a clear picture on how items are disposed of................lol

How comforting ! If a resident lives on the outskirts of Templeton or East Templeton how will the "Fire Department" get a fire out with no water source ? Everybody spit on three !

Improvement in building codes and smoke/fire detection have resulted in far fewer fires. Taxpayers should see some real savings in fire service costs. It seems to me that fire service unions see this, and thus the concentration on ambulence. Used to be ambulence was private industry. And anyone who imagines a return to the "good old days" of firemen getting paid to sleep and make model airplanes isn't fit for public service.
