from today's selectmen email box:

Members,

As I sit here on Saturday morning reading the news articles I grow more concerned for the citizens of Templeton. It is becoming more and more obvious to me that my local government is keeping vital health information away from its citizens.
I've read through 7 local and national publications. Each and every publication has multiple articles relating to the extent of the Covid-19 infection. Each of these publication had World, National and State confirmed cases, deaths and in some  cases recovered cases. Even our own "Daily Status Report" lists National, State and Worcester County confirmed cases, but somehow local information regarding the number of infected, dead and recovered has been determined to sensitive for publication.
I want to ask someone, on what planet does more information make you less safe? How could knowing the number of confirmed, dead and recovered possibly make me, a citizen, a taxpayer of Templeton less safe?
Please show me the facts! How am I as a citizen of Templeton safer by not knowing if 8 or 8000 of my local residents are infected? How do I as a citizen feel safer ( because thats really what its about) when my BOH is withholding vital information regarding the spread of a highly contagious disease among our local community.
Please reply with the governing legal rational for not reporting the number of local confirmed, dead and recovered. Could you also explain how ignorance on the part of the citizenry is preferred over knowledge as seemingly the BOH is insisting that ignorance of a diseases local spread is better than knowledge for the safety of Templeton Taxpayers.

I feel this information is vital to protect the health and safety of Templeton residents and find it a massive disservice that our BOH is refusing to release vital healthcare information. If the info is not important than why is it required to be reported to the BOH?

Only looking for legal response from BOH, not justification of method by BOS or Admin.

Concerned citizen,

  1. Many of us have elderly, immuno suppressed family members, many not living in our homes that we cannot visit. These people are more dependent on others for care, food, shelter yet many people are walking around like this is all a overblown blah, blah, blah.
I have a father in his 90's, family members in 60's and I myself have health issues placing me in the vulnerable class so yes, I'd like to know were my local community stands in terms of health as I am still required to interact with others and the items that deliver.....
Like the news from other parts of the world who have taken this virus seriously we would be able to see the results of our efforts to "flatten the curve" and the positives of people recovering. I know when this first started I had to search for info on recovery from Covid-19 because all that was being reported was infection rates and deaths.

In a time when peoples lives are threatened by a virus that appears easily communicable I do not feel withholding information not prohibited by law (depending) is the best way to assist taxpayers to stay safe.

  2. I would like to add , the fact we are in a state of emergency a pandemic which is not cured as their is no cure and the only resistance is to stay home , As we all know the virus is hidden enemy which may infect anyone everywhere , and this their no test which states if your carrier or visual effected , We been sent home by mother earth as she clear the way would to suit their greed , On the other hand one might respect LIFE and consider the pandemic and cancel the town meeting respect this threaten reality of the virus . but NO june 3 seems urgent matter to whom ??? however it is no surprise to this citizen that condition of residential properties and heath hazards is not enforce by the building department , environmental , septic / water . Board of heath and the good old operational Templeton light and water department which violated their own regulation when comes to zoning . if i may say , if the town people will wake up Uses school choice protect their kids and stay home safe and sound these kids will control the factors in their own interests as it should be . The cost is 8400 .00 they apply on line and by enrolled in state virtual school programs these kids control their own time we do not EVER need public brick and mortar schools . again if look what china is doing 8 yr olds are becoming inventors China kids skill using the computer can not even measure up to our own kids at the same age , we are stuck in habit a habit ruled by old unions and its time to change it for the students and ourselves , Massvocals if the town budget did not have to be given so many over rides every year and whats that say ? we would not need a town meeting ,

  3. also their is nothing that stop the selectmen form opposing a on line voting system for the warrant / each town voter can log in and then cast the vote nothing stop the town form doing this even if an amendment is made that too can be voted on it would work by all voting in presents and then by virtual on line meeting the system would be enacted much the same way , it can it may it will only be if those elected do it ,
