Wasn't it something about an out of balance budget for 100k to be corrected at the fall town meeting. Maybe the financial wizards committee can explain it or perhaps they can just tell you there is a problem without looking at the evidence, solution, or anything other the stocking their fingers in their ears crying wolf for attention. It's no wonder the Board of Selectmen don't give you the things you want.. you guys find the problem and ignore the fix just like that guy said about the fire bombing bobby. I read the court documents and it's clear Bob was appointed of arson of his house and he sued his insurance company after he provided false information to commit fraud. Surely the man didn't do anything wrong when he went to a max prison for 3 years after a trial by jury.. give me a break. Fits right into the advisory committee as a spin doctor. Actually anon, if you took the time to look and or attend, you would know the answer; the selectmen wanted town meeting to approve a transfer from the ambulance receipts account to the fire/EMS department, there has to be an influx of money to pay the costs of two full time fire/EMS workers so as to keep the ALS ambulance license in Templeton. The selectmen were told by the DOR they could only ask for a transfer of funds they actually have. The solution to this was/is either cut 100 thousand from the fire/EMS budget, or cut 100 thousand from the general fund budget, or do what is proposed, fix the 100 thousand dollar shortfall with a transfer (s) in the fall or cut the 100 thousand out.
Pointing out problems is far better than what the selectmen have done for a number of years; every thing is fine and we have a competent financial team in place, well, except for the treasurer/collector. You can read about that in the management letter from the audits. So, to recap, selectmen were going to ask town meeting to transfer funds they (the town) did not have to pay for two full time employees and the DOR told them they could not do it, you can only transfer money that you actually have. Perhaps a reconsideration of who the fools are, who the trouble makers are, since there are those who wish to meet in public and tell the town all is fine and then there are those who ask questions and point out issues, which is usually how problems get solved. They are pointed out or noted and questioned, then discussion on how to fix them and how to avoid repeating them. So the selectmen plan is to "fix" the 100 thousand dollar shortfall in the fall at a special town meeting, if the money is there. Remember, these same selectmen have said the money was there before, except it wasn't, which is why questions always need to be asked and explanations are required, in my opinion, anyways.
Except, it does not appear you are looking for explanations, just causing trouble! That is my thought and opinion.

The issues are apparent Jeff. the choices are just as clear but somehow we find issues and stop working towards a solution. That's the way of the Selectmen from 2011. Wasn't that you jeff?

Sentenced to 3 years in MAX. = Every single person sentenced to state prison is sent to Concord for "intake".....which is called a MAX.
I was found guilty. Whether or not you believe I did what I was charged of I served the sentence, but I guess the "in the past" only applies to the BOS. That only applies to taxpayer issues, not the ever so important trash talk.
I'm a taxpaying, voting, citizen with the exact same rights as you, but you can't discuss facts as equals just like the BOS. You need to blame, shame, and distract from facts.
If you'd been paying attention the Advisory Board already warned about this practice being used by the BOS for the $100K.
The Fire Chief in 2011 tried to stop this behavior by a vote at town meeting, but the loophole allows fire to be drained.
How about we all start dealing with getting things done right, not just whitewashed as has been done in the past and present. Do you as a taxpayer(?) have any concern after the past 5 years that our BOS is not following procedures/policies, etc.........Are you aware that any of these issues could seriously hurt the Town if the DOR/DLS see the same behavior regarding regulations?
They came to Town to WARN us.........not sure we are listening.
If $100,00 had been cut from the budget at the Annual Town Meeting, then there would have been a balanced budget for FY 18.
ReplyDeleteThe deficit in EMS, if that account had been cut $100,000, could have been transferred at the STM in the Fall - once the ambulance receipts had been collected.
I don't want to see the loss of ALS/EMS . There are better ways of dealing with that $100,000 shortfall than by trying to appropriate money that had yet to be collected...WHICH IS WHAT THE SELECTMEN WANTED TO DO!
Playing a shell game with funds for public safety is a really bad idea, in my opinion.
The selectmen were called on that chicanery, by the DOR.
The shell games are how Templeton got into its financial mess. The shell games are NOT going to get Templeton out of its financial straits.

My lawyer did initiate the suit after I was indicted 5 months prior based on filing time if my memory serves me. Commercial Union bought, not paid my mortgage, big difference legally.
Now to what I said previously and this backs it up....
1) "Commercial Union seeks damages in the amount of $176,150.72. This is comprised of payments made by the company to pay off the mortgages ($140,000), and expenses paid to various investigators, consultants and accountants that were used to investigate the loss claim (totaling $36,150.72).
2) "May challenges the damage claim generally, and in two specific ways. Generally, he objects to an assessment for Commercial Union's investigative costs because Commercial Union paid investigators to build an arson case for prosecution by the local district attorney. May's objection is philosophical — he asserts that it is unfair that he should have to pay for the costs of his own prosecution. The objection appears to be built on a factually correct foundation; the invoices demonstrate that Commercial Union hired fire cause and origin experts to investigate the fire, collect and test samples, and assemble evidence showing that the house fire was intentionally set. As well, Commercial Union hired financial experts to conduct a financial background investigation on the plaintiff. Once the investigation was completed, the insurer (through counsel) met with the district attorney's office and presented its investigation. According to the plaintiff, Commercial Union's efforts constituted the bulk of the evidence used by the prosecutor in May's criminal trial."
Like I said, the Insurance company investigated me, why, because I owned the policy on an overbuilt home. My $140,000 rebuild policy was slightly dwarfed by the $225,000 build the insurance company got from THIER contractor.
Oh, my 1998 Buick Park Ave in the garage that got destroyed, that insurer went bankrupt while investigating my finances as justification not to pay......sounds ironic, hmmmmm.
Also noticed the suit was dropped in 2006, why, because they had to wait till I was released, not my choice.

ReplyDeleteHistory repeating itself…back in August 2013 during the override/school issue, there were all of a sudden soooo many new blog accounts created in which the common mission was to discredit Jeff, Julie, Bev, Pauly and the Advisory Board. There were fools like “Batman” who spewed their spam all over the blog with sexually inappropriate comments toward town officials. There was even accusations of violating OMLs from the likes of Huff and Puff and Poison Ivy. There were even memes made insulting several people in town who were speaking out about poor management. How interesting that there are all sorts of new bloggers on here making similar comments, memes, accusations once again! Hmmm, seems like someone really wants to deflect the conversation away from financial issues in Templeton (again!) by writing sensational dirt on the people who are trying to point out the problems in town government. Is it the same group pf people or has that torch been handed over to a new flock? It really makes one think about who are the real bullies in town. If one is interested, look up the town’s harassment suits in the past ten years. And while you’re at it, look up conflict of interest fines as well.

There are a lot of familiar names listed there. Hmmm… The person who created this page defaced the Templeton Town Seal and are using it as the profile picture. By Selectman Fortes sharing this on his page, it gives the impression that he condones this behavior. So, is this an action that is mature and responsible and is working towards bettering the unstable climate in Templeton? Do all of you find this appropriate? I don’t. It’s embarrassing to have this town keep voting in people like this that don’t take the position seriously and make hypocritical decisions.
So, Mr. Fortes, lay off the childish behavior and use your wealth of knowledge from your fortune 500 job and genuinely help the people in Templeton. Remove those memes from your page.
