  1. So, how much over does anyone think the Town Counsel account will be? 20,50,100,200% over........How much of that is subsidizing the $80,000 TA Salary? Could we pay a highly qualified TA more money? Would it actually cost us anything in real dollars? How mush did Markels decisions cost the Town? Was it worth hiring on the cheap? Are we still doing the same thing, expecting a different result?

It's my belief that with volunteer Boards, Committees, commissions(?) we need a Strong, knowledgeable manager that doesn't follow Daves thinking that violating regulations only cost $10 fines so big deal. See to me that thinking says, the rules dont matter, only the consequences.

    1. We are living with the consequences of some very expensive bad decisions. 252 sucked money from our budget that just dragged our town further into the hole, we just can't seem to get out of. Add to that the money spent on raises that were handed out by Mr. Markel on his way out of the door. The only problem with that move was, the lack of funds budgeted for those raises ! How does this town expect to ever be stable, financially, when money is spent when there is none ? The school issue, has issues ! One is the simple fact that most people have no idea how much this fiasco is going to cost them in the end. I can guarantee that it will not be the 1.74 figure that people were told. All of the documentation that I have seen from the State shows future growth for this town, going down, not up ! Those same documents show the number of children attending schools going down also. The number of empty homes does not go down, and I am very afraid a big increase in the tax rate will only increase that number also. When the "school" was being planned, we had our jump in growth. I do not see that happening again. A large increase in the tax rate, will drive a number of elderly from their homes, and I am afraid the younger people will not be far behind. Until we can find people who will have enough courage to do the right thing and produce a budget that we, as a town can live with, the merry go round of money, no money, money, no money will not end. I take that back, it will end in bankruptcy. No matter how you look at it, this town does not produce enough revenue to float a boat as big as our "superior board" thinks we have to have. The credit card mentality will not be acceptable to the State authorities, and it should not be acceptable to us. We have to live within our means. Nothing will change that fact. If in the end we have a school with no one it, and more and more empty homes, I will know I did my best to explain the facts of life to people too stubborn or ignorant to listen. Like my grandmother used to say, "You can't put an old head on young shoulders." Bev.

  2. After reading the TA weekly report I'd like to congratulate Luanne Royer to being Unanimously appointed as Deputy Assessor. Brad L elected Chair of BOA. I also would like to note that I appreciate the info Assessors Dept put in reports to TA.

It was also nice to see Highways report. More patching in more areas being called in. (blogged about?)Alan seems to be adjusting nicely.

I hope the Town can gave give these folks the tools they need to do the job rather than have hundreds of thousands locked away because we couldn't be bothered or wasted paying for bad planning/follow through.

    1. Bob M. you are right. Our Assessors do a super job, and the women in the Assessors office can always be counted on to provide any information asked for, with out the "attitude". The problems only a couple of people had in Town Hall, made things look pretty dark. I have tried to tell as many people as I could, that this was not everyone. The majority of the people working for us in Town Hall, do a great job ! I try to let them know how much I appreciate them as often as I can. Bev.
