PHILLIPSTON – The Selectboard voted Wednesday to approve a new intermunicipal public safety agreement with Templeton.

This three-year agreement entails Templeton providing police and fire dispatch services for both communities. Templeton’s five-member Selectboard also gave the agreement its unanimous backing Wednesday night.

The previous agreement called for Templeton to bill Phillipston annually based on the number of calls received from Phillipston. The most recent bill amounted to just over $77,000. Instead of being charged on a per-call basis, Phillipston will now pay $50,000 every fiscal year over the length of the agreement.

The contract also includes a provision for Phillipston to “establish an equipment budget…in the amount of $5,000 annually for the purpose of purchasing communication-related equipment.

Once again, Templeton residents pay so another town can benefit. One town gets same service as Templeton for less than the cost of one employee.

  1. Phillipston will receive same service as before, get a "stipend" of 5 grand, perhaps fees for Templeton residents should be reduced as a way to help them out? Same service for a smaller fee, you know, like selectmen just did for another town.

  2. Our TA is an skilled negotiator. He was able to maintain the contract by offering a 42% off sale.

$77,000 to $45,000 ($50,000 - $5000=) means we have accepted the new contract while only being paid 52% of our past contracts.

How much more is Templeton paying for ACO now than previous years?

Can anyone else see Overrides, Debt exclusions and Draining the Stabilization account ion our near future...........awesome right?

  3. Page 7 of the new agreement states Phillipston may reasonable exceed the 5 thousand dollar amount with approval of recc director, which is Templeton police chief. Nice!

  4. This agreement is solely to maintain the staffing in Templeton Police Station so that our Ambulance department ( supposedly paid by receipts) calls are all handled by dispatch. Our Light and Water relies on Dispatch for an answering service in evenings and weekends. I see no compensation from them ( enterprise account that they are).
Does the District School pay into the costs for dispatch as they are a separate budget partially paid by Phillipston.

I know, it's really pointless bringing it up as we are broke and will be cutting shortly..............
