As for the lawyer at Town meeting, he or his firm is hired by the Board of selectmen and he acts on things they request. You pay for it but that is how it goes. I believe if asked by the selectmen, Paul would have / could have, put forth proper and legal wording to allow for the motion to be discussed and voted on. The selectmen chose not to do that. I believe you will find a majority of the selectmen did not want further discussion on the school. Further investigation is required to find out what the actual authority of the selectmen is during a town meeting. Perhaps selectmen are not required and perhaps a group of citizens could go front and center and read each article to all who attend town meeting. That way, everyone who attends would hear the entire article read. Remember, the people who attend town meeting and sign in as registered voters are the legislative body, that body votes for or against all town by-laws and appropriations to operate the town. Perhaps a new by-law, properly researched, to force a reading of all articles, rather than "as written" could then happen. It is your government and it really does not need to be changed. It only becomes bad or misaligned when we allow it.
That is my opinion.
If a group of business men and farmers can take on the king of England, certainly the town's people can take on the selectmen.

    1. I was thinking about some of the rotten things Glady's encountered back in the seventies. She was the first woman selectman and the first person from Templeton since Mr. Rich. Believe me, the good old boys from Baldwinville did not want her in ! Templeton did not have any representation for many years, and the boys from Baldwinville did not want that to change. Dunlavey was our Police Cheif at the time, and went from coffee shop to coffee shop, bad mouthing her ! Come to think of it, we did have coffee shops back then, and businesses that paid taxes. I can say this for certain, as much as Glady's loved her kids, she loved her town more. She would have been besides herself if she was at that poor excuse for a Town Meeting. Shame on our selectmen ! The people in this town deserve to know the facts, yes the real facts, about what this disaster of a school will really cost them ! Then they have the right to vote on wether they can afford it or not ! The people in this town also should also know the truth about the financial mess this town is in. Respect the people enough to let them know the facts, or they will resent the fact they have been kept in the dark ! This sneaky underhanded behavior will come back to bite you big time ! Bev. A nasty woman, Templeton style !

  3. The facts are out there. The people knew them as there were many many meetings. The Selectman meetings are held in public and can be watched on TV. If you were at the meeting on Monday we talked about the lack of leadership that we provided and also explained about how Town Council works at a meeting and about the review of a warrant. I did not know were were not going to read the articles and that was explained by the Chairman of the Board at the meeting. Town Council told the TA to let him know at the meeting if funds had been expended for Article 8. That evening and the next day I spent a lot of time on the phone talking to people about the meeting and how we didn't portray leadership. The truth is out there. The truth is this town has had financial difficulty and poor decision making since way before my time and you said so yourself. I spoke several times at Monday's meeting about working with the Advisory Committee and Julie Richard said the committee was invited to meetings and refused. That is what we were informed of. I told Mr. Moore about that also. Never heard a word after that. It's time to stop the blame game. I can love our children and our town too Bev and the voters said yes and I am going to honor that. Glady's loved both and I respect her and that is why I asked for the playground to be named for her. I think it's unfair though to speak on her behalf because she is not here. She was an innovator and a helper and fair and thought on things that moved us forward. That's how I remember it. I am not being sneaky or underhanded. We don't withhold information, we give it and it's not always pretty. Again, the voters said yes.

It's comical to hear the leader of the "We turned 3 No votes into an increase for NRSD" talk about "honor" for the will of the voters.

Had that been true, you would have stopped after the Annual Election said NO to the NRSD increase.

Keep taking in Choice students and you'll bankrupt the Town.

    1. The Special Town Meeting last Thursday night is the second time that articles were not handled fairly. At May's ATM, Julie made a motion to go over the budget line by line. She was ignored. In all my years of attending town meetings I have never seen such underhanded behavior. If they had done as Julie requested, members of the AB could have explained why we did not feel the numbers for new growth and sales tax were wrong. The "voters" could have made their own decision, and just maybe we would not be in the mess we are in right now. Markel told people not to come to us ! Ask yourself, where did he come from ? Where did his found money come from, and if it came from a account left over from days gone by, why didn't it need to be approved by the voters as any other transfer should have been ?? Where did the library money go ?? Oh yes, in some account, but which one ? Now we have a bully working for the Board of Selectman. Just what the Town needs. No one works harder for this town than Will Spring. He does some of the members of his board a favor when he prints out information, that we need for meetings. It makes it easier for him to print, collate and staple all at one time, something to machine in the hall does not do. If anyone needed to use the machine, he would have gladly turned it over to them, and it was at noon time. Don't cry about using toner after the amount of waste Markel created in May alone. Try 21 versions of the budget, that did not add up or make sense in the end. The very worse thing that was done was to stand up and lie to the people who believed every word that was said, and then to have them feel like they were treated badly Thursday night. I pleaded with people to come back to Town Meeting and stand up for them selves. I do not know if they will come back again. Maybe they will if they are angry enough.

    2. That was a legal process as we are a regional school district and when we continue to say no, Phillipston students just get what we say. Completely unfair. I also was not on the Board of Selectman at that time, I am only reminding everyone.

Phillipston should be allowed to have a say and due to the process that was taken they were. There were many that took that stand. I stood up for what I believed even when I knew I would take criticism from some and thankfulness from others.

Taking in choice students AND students that choice out cost $$ for each community. If we want our students to stay here then we have to make it be that we are providing for them. I put my name on everything so you can see who I am and what I say. Do you?
