 Happenings in Templeton.

The computer gods  tell me that Templeton's asst. accountant was fired. Lynn (Phillipston's treasurer) sent out some smoke signals informing me that Kelli (Templeton town accountant) is going to hire her in Templeton to do the payroll and and be her asst. she will still be working in the Templeton Collector /treasurer office and in Phillipston. The drum beat from the other side of the river, sends this message, "Who really runs Templeton"?

It almost looks like a game of musical chairs is going on in Town Hall these days. There is a very visible group of five (somewhere there is a picture showing five) and while most of the time, there are only four seen at the table on tv or you tube, but there is suppose to be five and they are charged with among other things, the policy and budget responsibilities of Templeton. The group of five can delegate most of their duty/authority as they wish, they cannot delegate their responsibility. The group of five now have a very large and expensive monument to their accomplishments, one very expensive and big building known as an elementary school (that they will soon lose control of, if they ever controlled it to begin with) When the music stops, will there be anyone left to sit in the chairs?

The future of Templeton probably just went to the cellar with the departure of Eric Pollitt and that is the responsibility of the group of five. The question now is what will they do about it? When the company is not doing well, the CEO usually is sent on their way, sometimes followed by the CFO.

On the bright side, pretty soon, the Templeton highway department will have a couple of brand new trucks, however, will there be anyone to drive them?

  2. On where, oh where did Eric go, oh where can be be ? Poor Eric was smart enough to see the writing on the wall. Seems Carter had little intention of teaching this young man anything ! No one wants to be a gofer ! Eric, go for this, Eric, go for that ! Gee,
I could do that easily but the young man would not get paid $40.K. Seems the money wasn't worth it in the end ! So I guess we can add the balance of his pay to Carter's slush fund ! Sounds like Kelli is going to hire another person with no certification !
So much for air crack financial team !

  3. I would agree with you that the future in Templeton just got a darker. We had an intelligent, honest, and willing young man who moved here with the promise of training, mentor-ship from our Selectboard and TA. He apparently was not willing to be the copy boy or gopher. This is a huge setback for Templeton.

We are coming up on July 1 and from all accounts the Highway department is short 4 people. It also sounds like we were sold a "bill of goods" on the infield groomer. Someone didn't know what they were talking about.

I had a thought, why dont we ask Doug Morrison if He has another relative who needs a job in Town. Maybe a brother, another sister, heck maybe a cousin.

C'mon folks! Can't we do better than this? Carters management style is outdated, unworkable and in many ways insulting. He has nobody standing up to him. We need a strong BOS who is willing to oversee the town and not just pay it lip service.

    1. I'm not on the Advisory Committee and if you're talking about the "copy boy" type comments I was talking to the member after the meeting. Where were you? Where are you now? Are you helping ..............?

    4. A realist like myself BOB M , sees local government as a collection of competing interests. Government, like other organizations, is made up of individuals striving to pursue their own conflicting self- interests... ( as witnesses thru the decades in Templeton ) .
Solving local government’s most critical fiscal problems is beyond my pay grade. However BOB M , I look foward to a list of “fixes” or your procedures that have been cemented in the function of this Town. As you have and still are on boards / committees you must have some.

    5. "Justsmartenuff"...............I am not on any town boards or committees and if you refer to the listing on the webpage that to is a failure of management as I have asked to be removed and have received confirmation that I have been. Yup, I know I'm still listed, maybe you can get me removed from the listing as I have been unsuccessful.

  6. Well, that is too bad. As you seem here to be full of ideas , policy corrections and criticisms. Let me ask then when you were on a committee/board what were the accomplishments ?

    1. Time will tell. I did volunteer my time. On the advisory Committee I showed up and gave my advice. On Capital Planning I showed up and gave my advice. Their were 11 other members on those committees and we all volunteered in an attempt to make our Town better (speaking for myself anyways), whether we succeeded is not my call in the long run

Whether or not anything was accomplished I leave for future historians.

      What have you done Justsmartenuff???

    6. Should have known a person such as yourself would choose Carrneige. People post here of how important it is to know ones history. Not just the cleaned up version for” tv “ .
You quote a man who broke steel workers unions in 1862 . A corporatist .
The other you quote - I assume to prove you know the full script of a fictional puppet.

  7. Just a suggestion. Someone should ask the sewer commissioners what the TA is attempting to do to the sewer department. Just sayin'

    1. I don't think anyone needs to ask what the TA has for intentions. It is pretty evident he needs another source of revenue to dip his paws into. Thankfully, the Sewer Commissioners are a strong group, and will not be lead down the yellow brick road.
