Where is the money?

One of the things promised by the state government was if you create or join a regional school district, the state - taxpayer money - will pay 100 percent of transportation costs. The state has failed with that promise, so it has fallen on the Towns - taxpayers - to cover those costs. Civil action is needed now, every resident should be contacting the state senator for Templeton and demand where is the money? Why have you not kept your promise? Where is the bill that covers this appropriation?

Before you get them into politics, before they are of legal age to drink, smoke, get a drivers license, join the military, etc., how about you get them to school! You may not have been in office when the promise was made, but you are in office now and you have an obligation to ensure that promise is acted upon. Do the right thing and get school transportation 100 percent funded.

Whipps (by vote of the town) that the town of Wendell be authorized to allow persons sixteen years of age or older to vote in town elections in said town. Election Laws. The information presented on the Town website may change, depending on the certified school budget that will most likely happen on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the next school committee meeting. The school budget sub committee is suppose to meet on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 6:00 P.M. It is possible there is last minute movement on the part of the school budget.

With regards to unions, etc., what has been posted here previously has to do with labor contracts, often referred to as CBA or collective bargaining agreements.

What was posted concerned the financial ramifications of those agreements/contracts.

Within the fiscal year 2019 spending plan is a figure of $40,000.00 to cover merit pay raises and CBA requirements. Those are things that were signed previously and now have to be covered. Those things have an effect on taxes. Not talking about them, not pointing those out is equivalent to putting one's head in the sand. You may not see those items, it is not known at this time if there will be a line by line explanation of the proposed spending plan or not.

Within the draft Town Meeting warrant is article 22. Fiscal Year 2019 general fund operating budget.

To see if the Town will vote to appropriate the sum of (now blank) for the operations of general government for fiscal year 2019 and to meet said appropriation with a transfer of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars an no cents from the ambulance receipts reserved for appropriation, anticipated receipts and the balance from taxation.  Or to take any other action thereto.

Massachusetts General Law - chapter 268A

Section 21A: Members of municipal commission or board; restrictions on appointments to certain positions

Section 21A. Except as hereinafter provided, no member of a municipal commission or board shall be eligible for appointment or election by the members of such commission or board to any office or position under the supervision of such commission or board. No former member of such commission or board shall be so eligible until the expiration of thirty days from the termination of his service as a member of such commission or board.

The provisions of this section shall not apply to a member of a town commission or board, if such appointment or election has first been approved at an annual town meeting of the town.

Keep track of this law, it might be important at Town Meeting.

Is this a problem? Perhaps.

Templeton Town Hall - not really ADA compliant.

If you happen to be in a wheel chair, either permanent or temporary, and you go to Templeton Town hall, you find your self in front of a door that you have to roll up to, grab handle and wheel yourself backwards in order to open the door to enter. I believe one item to upgrade is to have bi fold doors with a push device to automatically open doors inward so the person can enter Town Hall safely. I believe those were the type of doors originally recommended when the work on Town Hall began so as to make it ADA compliant. So, "it has a ramp, doors and bathrooms, what else do you want?"

Perhaps, all that is wanted is simple and safe access to a public building, and I do not think that is available right now for everyone.

While it is costly, doing the door (s) over twice, to assist anyone who may require such things to enter a public building, may not only be needed in order for those residents to go to Town Hall, to attend meetings for instance, the door do over might be required to be compliant within the law. It is no different than handicap parking spaces, you know the parking area up front and close to a store's door that are often empty. They are required by law and if it is required by law and it will aid / enable a citizen/ resident / taxpayer to enter Town Hall, then that is it

I recall a comment (s) here on this blog concerning how we treat and take care of seniors, children, etc, speaks to the character of the Town and could be one of many reasons a person or family might choose Templeton as a place to live, I think the same case can be made for how a Town tries to look out for people who may need the extras to take part in the process of Town government.
