Oh Templeton, first it was all the Towns that Touch (border) Templeton have tax rates at $20.00 per thousand, which if anyone checks, that is simply untrue. Now, Templeton employees are under paid and the offered wage is under market value.

For instance, Templeton highway is $5.00 to $10.00 under market. Well, time to check surrounding towns and see how true that rings.

A quick look at the FY 2019 spending plan shows Templeton highway laborer/operator at an average of $40,000.00 per year.

Executive assistant to Town Administrator;

Hubbardston executive assistant to the Town Administrator - $32,825.00

Templeton executive assistant to Town Administrator -           $40,000.00

Winchendon Town Manager executive assistant  -                    $62,000.00

Barre executive assistant to Town Administrator -                     $33,000.00
(+ / -) employment add on MMA website shows $15.79 per hour.

Templeton appears to be in the middle (average) on this pay scale. I think the benefit side of things should also be looked at - how generous are Templeton health insurance offerings compared to other communities / are the benefits pre-tax or post tax? Makes a difference.

It does look as though the message from the selectmen can be taken as less than transparent. If the statement is (such as regarding tax rate) that all the towns bordering Templeton pay more for a position, please show us the list so we may compare.

  1. Your selectman The Chair specifically has a lack of let’s just say facts on many issues. He also displays his lack of knowledge and presentation on statistics.
    One should give him the benifit of doubt however on this. I do beleive that his comment should have been more precise and dilineated to towns with the same infrastructure and services that are currently built in to the towns budget and expectations of ones taxpayers.

  2. Geez BOB M what tiny town of < 9000 souls has idk - full water dept and sewer “ treatment “ , Electical Company . A town which was built up for industry by the towns people in hopes of a better future for their children.
    Then, the unions went - down to N Carolina for cheap wages and less environmental regulations. Then the biggest public health hazard up and left ( Erving ) . Left with all these issues - no one has EVER come up with any ideas to help - NO ONE BOB M .
    SO, if I were to look around for a town that fit the horrific infrastructure and lack of community that Templeton has - I would have to look long and hard. The towns that suffer from the same ills as us ... have a larger tax base to pull from, smarter people perhaps to run the town.
    Clearly, I have no short term answers to elevate this Towns financial and ethical chasms. But, neither do you.

    Again, you know not what you say. John told me and I quote

If I had to guess why let's see I can go on and on but no body gets it. It's all about free today and unfortunately it doesn't work that way. "

  5. He wrote it............email June 27............. Thats the only part I am willing to share as in it He states He would will say it publicly. Feel free to ask John yourself.

    It's tiring hearing the same inaccurate excuses for poor management. We aren't loosing key department figures based on salaries........other towns around us aren't over $20.00 and the school is not underfunded, it's overfunded!

    9. Oh, and remember. It such a strain to get a raise. The plannned progress from $16.39 to $20.91 is 1 1/2 years-2 1/2 years.

      $4.50 raise in a 1 1/2 years.............yup, thats getting underpaid at a rate of about $44,000 a year with $26,000 in benefits..........horrible

LOL..............The fact that differentiate $40,000 paid the Assistant Administrator to be fair and $40,000- $44,000 to be for a LOT unfair based on the antiquated idea of single breadwinner is what.......asinine, sexists. Our Administrative assistant can't be a single breadwinner so the $40,000 is sufficient?

      I know this might not be the most pressing issue, but I noticed a BOS meeting pop up today for June 27,2018 and was wondering if it was just an oversite while adding the new Wednesday schedule or were we scheduling a meeting to finally fix our problems........lol

      So this is the question that made you run away? Why, because it completely contradicts your original argument? An endless loop in coding is designed to achieve a goal or continue. Just like most debates or conversations among people.
      I understand its difficult to justify a flawed concept, but running away to the choo-choo is a new alternative.
