Since recommendations of DOR matter in the instance of say a PILOT, then recommendation concerning size of advisory should be considered and perhaps it is time, go from 7 to 5 members, once upon a time, there were 9 members of planning board, but due to being hard to find members to run for election, number was reduced to 7. Advisory once upon a time had 9 members, reduced to 7 because difficulty in getting enough members for a quorum. Considering what happened right after our last annual town meeting, not enough members to have a quorum for a 7 member group, maybe time to consider going to 5, there are many communities with 5 member advisory committees. By the way, state law and our town bylaws state we have an advisory committee, NOT an advisory board, sometimes facts matter!
1951 town bylaw, there shall be an advisory committee of 9 legal voters . . . . section 1 of article IV in 2010 Templeton town bylaw book, sections 1-4, 5, 6 passed 3-5-1951. Massachusetts General Law chapter 39, section 16, advisory, finance or warrant committee, so fact is from 1951, town bylaw and state law cited it as advisory committee, some people just decided to call it something else, sort of the cemetery and parks commission, town never accepted MGL on parks commission - facts do matter.

I really do love this one.......Lets do something to limit a Committee, yet these Selectboard members might want to actually just do the job they are elected to do.....

Maybe someone would like to explain to me how we paid or if we paid for ACO services from 6/30/20-3/13/21 or so even though we had no legal contract?
How about utilizing financing obtained by Selectman Julie Richards without the vote of the "scout hall reuse committee" went to CPC to obtain funding. How that funding is still being used. How Ms. Richard has not been held accountable to the public. How the Board changed the purpose from "Municipal youth and Community center" to "visitors center and TCTV" without voter approval?
Many things the selectboard could be doing. Instead they attack Advisory for questioning the legality of placing a member facing ethics charges for improper use of town funds on the Committee. Didn't someone talk to a Selectboard member about it? Reasonable cause was found against Caplis on June 24, 2021 to go to adjudicatory proceedings FYI
So to sum up.
Seems like Select board members are far more interested in constantly playing politics, fighting with a group that has no ability to spend, create, or do anything other than Advise on use of the $47,000 town reserve fund rather than doing their job.
Bob, you said it all ! Abusing volunteers who are willing to do a job will bring residents flocking to Town Hall to help out. It works every time.
