Looking down the road a bit, will there be a Templeton crafts fair this year? I mean if selectmen opined due to school construction, the senior mac n cheese festival cannot be on the common, I do not see how the craft fair can be held there.

Again, some good ides, thoughts and discussion on things here, hopefully they are brought to the open forum or sooner. I think the Town needs all the ideas that can be brought forward. I did learn something yesterday while walking around knocking on doors; people do know things are happening, some people wonder if selectmen know there are residents outside of Town hall, people do wonder about the roads, talk of override (s), why is the school hiring another assistant principal, what is the new school going to cost, how much are taxes really going up. Fact is, quite a few people do know things, understand things, but are looking for explanations and information.

If one takes time to leave Town Hall and go out to meet and speak with the people, listen and hear what their concerns are, it may help to create a path to go down and get people involved.
My opinion is, do not say people do not understand, because they do get their tax bill, they drive down the roads, they do read the newspaper, they do talk with other people. The mission should be, perhaps, get these people to town meeting and have a discussion. Perhaps it should not be to see how quickly the meeting can be over, perhaps it should not be how convenient a meeting can be for selectmen, perhaps it should be, how can this meeting benefit residents.

Just a thought or two.

  1. Mr Bennet; I’m still researching the nuances of “ FU “ vs “FU 941 “ but I notice in your above post that - some suggestions are good .. Is this one a good one ? If not please explain.

Very good point about the craft fair. I have a suspicion that may be difficult for certain selectmen to explain to their "peeps".

  3. I’m going to say this blog does give a platform for people to say the most callus, rude, inflammatory, short sided, inaccurate , misleading ( sometimes purposefully ) knee jerk “ solutions “ to complex problems in the area.
In a true display of democracy, a town hall meeting is being held in Templeton very soon. Location of meeting - a building preserved with both federal, state and local money’s, So that town residents and board/ committee members will have the opportunity to publicly voice every last one of the inane thoughts and concerns they would normally only have the chance to utter to themselves or perhaps here on this blog. Best of Luck -As always my opinion as they say.

Have you ever been to a town meeting?
There has been very little discussion allowed recently. The powers that be have not allowed it.

Do you have access to the internet ? Go to TCTV click on town meetings and watch. There the chairman asks - any public discussion ? Questions ? —- silence — that I think would be the time to speak wouldn’t you ?

Town meeting is different than a selectman meeting. Which based on your response you have not attended.

Anon 1:55 pm I think you have a meeting March 28 2018 - go and rattle off the Ayn Rand talking points , I can’t wait to hear them .
My comment above still stands for board meetings ( I made an error in labeling meeting )
As far as TOWN MEETING learn your Roberts Rules of Order - I hear plenty of speaking at those meetings -

  5. I have a question. How is saving someone a hypothetical (120.00 A YEAR ) on ones property tax assessment saving money vs that same persons overall cost for say a meal or transportation to a safe place like the senior center saving that citizen any money as a member of the town and a property tax payer ?
Would that persons wealth, thereby ability to stay in town as a resident and continue to contribute civically, culturally and monetarily be adversely impacted ? I suspect yes.

In agreement with Lost art. To focus on how expensive it is to take care of our elderly, our sick and our less fortunate? What kind of statement are they making ? What does that say about this Towns moral compass ?
That begs the question: if one was looking to build or relocate is this a town that supports its citizens as the age ?

    1. My moral compass says it is not right to force our Senior Citizens out into the street. If you are over the age of seventy, then you know how little money you have to live on. Most of the elderly, friends of mine, worked the land, worked in wood shops, places that did not pay well. That is how it was !They cannot go back and fix that. It is what it is. Trying to find a good balance so we do not find more empty houses in the end is my goal. The last fiscal year, the plan was to nail the Senior Center shut, then there was talk of closing the library. This was not done, so where did the money come from ?? We have sucked from the Highway Dept. for so long our roads are a mess. Pretty much beyond hope. Two men short to keep other departments a float is no good, because they cannot get any projects done in the summer with no help. Demand a line item budget so you can see where your money is going, at least until you get out of the door. Let the Selectmen know you want to see where your money is going, and you can only do that thru a line item budget, a tradition this town has had for 250 years. MY opinion as a citizen, taxpayer and home owner in this Town of Templeton. Bev.

    2. Also I will note it’s good practice to look back at previous town annual reports like Bev says to see who was on the board of selectmen - who actually do approve the questions that will be in front of the voters for their consideration.
It’s clear that looking back to 2012,13 and 14 that there were opportunities to place before voters suggestions like the ones I have read here ( some I agree with others not so much ). I don’t really find a lot of ideas in those reports other than moving money around and requesting additonal funding.

  7. It says a lot when an advisory member who along with the entirely of a committee has unprecedented access ( no other towns have apparently & money they voted to spend - * taxpayer money ) at any time of day / night to look into accounting / ledger VADAR (?) details and release these details if needed. I assume this information if relevant and supports the assertion of “ padding or waste in a budget “ in an open meeting they would do so. choose However, instead of that option of logical discussion Templeton gets innuendo that something is afoot as in the above post.

To "Lost Art" - maybe you wouldn't feel so "lost" if you paid attention to how you spend your money. Think about it, Art. It's only one twenty per year. You don't even have to budget for it. Right? And don't tell me you're one of those folks that suddenly wonders where all your money goes? You aren't, are you "Art"?

These liberal cocksuckers hide behind "education". They can't think for themselves, but they "know" that you are violating The Code of The Indoctrinated Dumbass. So they accuse you of the worst crime in their playbook - deviating from the Union Groupthink.

    2. Per se, 9:29, The only reason the A.C. has any access to VADAR is someone could not see fit to push a button to generate a report ! Of course you know that, because of your attitude I am willing to bet you sit in the front of the room at all the meetings. If course there has been padding of the budget ! Jeff has a email Merkel wrote referring to the hidden 10 k. So, the problem I have with the way we have constantly done business, is trying to fund a government with revenue that does not come close to cutting it ! If the people in this town vote for a override or not, that is their right ! I do have the right to my opinion ! Bev.
