Having watched things for the past few months, I have to wonder if the concept of regionalization of our schools is lost on those making decisions.
Why would a legal separate entity from Templeton go before a town capital improvement committee for any upgrades or repairs/ Is it the plan of Town "leaders/managers/admin to have Templeton residents support the school district without monies from the other member town? Templeton already pays at least twice for some of the costs of NRSD - playing fields and associated costs such as maintenance, electric, insurance, capital costs, etc. and yes, I am speaking of Gilman Waite Park. This is almost up there with funding water enterprise dept. projects and then not having the enterprise fund budget go before town meeting, same as sewer and tctv enterprise fund budgets go before town meeting. (Templeton water dept. enterprise budget went to town meeting until 2015 ATM - did the law change??)
The Gilman Waite field was given to the community "for the use of Templeton's Students". This does not count anyone else from anywhere else. This is a screw up people ignored because it was more convenient, but will bite us in the end, and along the way. NRHS has it's own fields. It seems the school people will be more than willing to use town fields as long as residents are willing to pay the freight out of two pockets. That is less $$ out of their budgets. Think about that !
ReplyDeleteI just watched the CPC meeting from this week. During the meeting Candace mentions that fencing needs replacing. They want dugouts.........All this is subsidizing the District School with our Towns CPC monies.............We should be charging the school for the use of Gilman. If we did 16% would be covered by the other district town.
ReplyDeleteRegarding Capital you have a really good point. I noticed the items they mentioned. most seemed like they would be beneath the cost bar established in District agreement (unless it wasn't continued in updated version) was something like $25,000 I thought?
Town of Templeton does not own Narragansett school building.
