The calculator works and it shows the actions of the Templeton highway department, backed by votes of the Templeton board of selectmen add to the debt of the Town and at least two items may be questionable.

Buying a truck out of snow and ice simply because you can deficit spend is in my opinion, irresponsible. A truck is not exclusive to plowing and sanding the roads. Again, using the snow and ice deficit spending allowance to repair a screening plant in the middle of the winter is in my opinion, irresponsible. The screen is used for other purposes. This deficit spending is the same as using ones credit cards to get everything you want now, without the funds to pay for it. That bill will come due and those funds will have to come from somewhere, which again, takes funds away from other items.

Fifth grade math, well, just look at the fiscal 2017 spending plan and it is apparent that someone needs to stay for extra help!. Does the potential $1750.00 equal $2500.00? No, but add up ALL of the extra freebies in the highway contract and as I pointed out prior, one must look at ALL contracts involving labor to realize the effect these have on the added debt or future financial obligations of the town. It is really a simple thing to see.

If anyone looks to see, the last fiscal year, Advisory Committee recommended the amount of $8500.00 for inspection services to try and avoid these needed transfers. Because the same amount used in fiscal 2016 was used in fiscal 2017 and since 2016 was short, it stands to reason of this citizen and member of the Advisory Committee that you will probable be short again!

Lastly, I guess it is okay for Davey to pick on the Templeton light and water department, but if someone points out anything about the highway department, little Davey gets bent out of shape.

Sorry about that but one must look at the total and whole town and consider those things that have effect on other parts and like it or not, labor contracts have an effect and they are public records and they involve the spending of public monies. So perhaps Davey should brush up on his fifth grade math, because when you spend, you better have money to pay for it because you have to pay for it eventually, unless of course, you are spending other people's money.

  1. Irresponsible would be electing a select board that can't get the job done.In the past we have done just that and as the fleet ages and get retired we had the need to replace things the boards couldn't figure were over the life expectancy.
Irresponsible would be not replacing the truck and limiting what we have for a fleet more. We do with 11 what we use to do with 14. So Jeff wants us to do it with 10 and not purchase or spend from a budget that he thinks is improper.
Last i checked the truck plows and sands.
The money for liability insurance for the towns being sued would have helped us but for years to come bad decisions from past selectmen will put a damper on how well the town can recuperate from the mismanagement it has been subject to.
We are the ones to blame as we elect people and don't know how things will run till after the time goes by and problems are created. Just the back and forth with town Lawyers and coordinators to just name a couple issues LITTLE Jeffy knows about.
The people we elect can have a very poor outcome when they have agendas of their own and this town has been stuck with the bill for it time and time again.
Hope we don't make that decision again, like spend and don't demand a audit for the previous years prior. BLA BLA goes JEFF again and again and now he can point out all the mistakes the highway he thinks makes without a rational clue about what is going on with Templeton finances. Because when you spend, you better have money to pay for it, wish they did that when he was on the BOS. The problems we have now may not be any where near as bad.
So instead of blogs about the meeting last night he chose to do more of the same petty attacks BOOTS, UNIFORMS, GLASSES, you get it.
The word on the street we here at the Highway are hearing is another layoff in June. Great for a town who's Advisory committee and BOS can't get along and a budget process that has no ability to correctly manage the towns funds.
No more needs to be said when the Blog here is stuck without any change.

    Lastly,
Things that Advisory people blog make you go "huh"
    Right Mini Captain Quity?

years ago the selectmen did the same thing they were short money tried overrides and failed and waited to long and had to make cuts and we ended up with no street lights and no police dept at nights. the longer they wait to correct the mistakes the buffoons [selectmen] made!! the worst the cuts are going to be !! they should be cutting now not spending money just my opinion

  3. There would be no shortage if the budget included a pilot from the light like we had for many many years. They are there only to help profit from the town. Not to operate for the town any longer. One only has to look at the way they shuffled the format of their budgets and financials and copy from one year to the next to understand they can't show us what we want to see.
The lack of any respect to the towns boards is a obtuse operation they have pursued for years and they know there are people on boards like JEFFY that will continue to support them dispite the betterment of the town.
PROFITS from the school got me interested as how they in one years claimed to provide the power free while reaping their bucket full from the schools. The profit from one outweighs the other by far.
Driscol has the boards just where he needs them.
