Ridiculous, if we don't do it. $106.92 is going to hurt a lot more. We just can't let it leak. If mold gets onto the building it will cost a lot more. 😟
The PWA lobby has created a system that is unsustainable. We cannot fix our roads because the state specifications and wage rules guarantee costs rise faster than inflation. I would advocate for not spending a nickel, statewide, on any public works. Change the laws to allow competition. Let the trade unions go without work for a few years if necessary. Millions of dollars a mile to build a road is unsustainable. $10 million to replace a 28 year old metal roof, which was supposedly constructed under state specifications by the finest tradesmen?! It's like paying a blackmailer. I'm fed up with the people who say "but it will cost more if we don't do it now!" That is the scare tactics. Massachusetts is in a deep hole. It's going to be painful to get out of that hole.
OK, and in the meantime what happens at the School with 35 present leaks. Do you propose we wait 3-5 years for the legislature to mull over a proposal to change prevailing wage laws and deny it in 5 yrs?
I personally hate dealing with Unions, public especially, but forced use of private unions over non unions companies is discrimination.
At present we have to pay the highest rate and accept the cheapest bid! Who thinks that gets you top quality work.
Plow the roads after snow. Then send out a salt spreader at 3:30 to treat cleared roads. That's ok. But the plow truck at 4 just moved all the salt to the shoulder.
Appreciate the post!
ReplyDeleteRidiculous.
ReplyDeleteWhat's ridiculous? $91.42 per sq ft or is it $106.92 per sq ft?
DeleteHow much can you get your roof replaced for per sq ft?
What do you propose the Town do if not this?

All I would do is vote no on the debt exclusion and give the janitors some caulk. Let them get off their butts and do some work

ReplyDeleteStop giving government more money.
Lexington, Massachusetts is building a new High School. Estimated cost: $600 million. And some don't think it's time to fight the status quo.
